   This house was built prior to 1863, around 1860. The first level of the porch and other Neoclassical details were added about 1900. The second level of the porch was added later. In 2001, the house received a new painting and an interior rehabilitation by Lafayette Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. , its current owner.

   On May 24, 1916, Mrs. Caroline Hamlin (1838-1916) died at 2 o'clock in the morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. Hauerwadel. She had made her home with her daughter in this city for several years and was a member of St. John's Church. Mrs. Hamlin is buried in the Springvale cemetery.
